NEW CRUISING VERSION DESIGNS

We have in the recent 2 or 3 years built a 34ft Coastal Cruiser based on previous concept drawings, powered by 2 x Yanmar 100Hp Inboard Motors (Outboards would be our choice though, for better utilisation of space, power to weight ratio and general ease of service.

Also, closer centerline installation of the outboards enhances long range single outboard cruising.

As with the new fishing versions, we have settled on the below outboard powered cruiser versions.

The benefits we see are:

  • No need to go when the wind is blowing
  • Elevated helm position – Able to see further
  • Safer – No shaft seals, saildrive bellows or rudder post through the bottom of the boat.
  • The boat will not flip due to the sails
  • Speed up to 20 knots because the boat is lighter and more efficient.
  • Fuel costs are probably 25% of the sail and rigging maintenance costs for the year.
  • Have the speed to run from unexpected bad weather
  • Don’t wait six months for a replacement diesel engine, as outboards are days away pretty much anywhere.
  • Be the envy of sailers when you can head into the shallows.
